Commercial Break – Volkswagen: “Drivers Wanted”

I love this commercial because: I have a friend, Scott Ramsden, who worked for Arnold Advertising when this series of ads was developed and he gave me the inside scoop. The Driver’s Wanted series of ads resulted from extensive research with Volkswagon owners.

They learned that the one thing most owners had in common is that they love driving and find it fun and exhilarating. They worked to capture that in this series of ads which I think are brilliant. This message goes beyond driving. Are you a participant in life or just a bystander?

This ad and YOUR personal brand: Do some research (with those around you) to determine why people enjoy working with you – then flaunt it. If you want to learn what people think about you, use 360Reach, the personal branding assessment – (15-day passwords are free!).

  1. Great ad – absolutely more than drivers wanted – it is fun, life loving, upbeat owners wanted. This was a minute long ad that felt like 15 seconds – great use of tempo and fast visuals to get the feeling of speed and exhilaration.
Do all VW drivers though have to be stick shift users? Noticed all inside shots showed gear changing – perhaps deliberate?
    Just my toonies worth

I love VW’s, I’ve had a bunch of them – air-cooled and water-cooled. This commercial is too generic. The GTI “Unpimp” commercials from a few years ago were the best ever!
