REACH PERSONAL BRANDING INTERVIEW SERIES – December 2010

Dr. Marshall Goldsmith, author of MOJO: A New Approach to Increasing Engagement at Work and at Home

Why do some people find their lives so joyous and meaningful, while others, who are engaged in very similar activities, find their lives depressing and empty? In the Reach Personal Branding Interview Series on December 16, 2011, Dr. Marshall Goldsmith will addressed that very question. William Arruda, founder of Reach Personal Branding, interviewed Dr. Goldsmith, a world authority in helping successful leaders achieve positive, lasting change in behavior for themselves, their people and their teams.

Dr. Goldsmith explored the key factors that influence our MOJO, that positive spirit toward what we are doing now that starts from the inside and radiates to the outside. He talked about how we can help ourselves and the people around us experience more happiness and meaning both at work and at home.

In this interview, you will learn:

  • Dr. Goldsmith’s definition of MOJO,
  • What constitutes the four building blocks of MOJO,
  • What shapes our identity and MOJO,
  • The MOJO definition of achievement,
  • Why we are often clueless about our reputation and MOJO, and
  • Why having MOJO is important in our lives.

Five MOJO Tips:

      1. Start measuring your MOJO both at work and at home, and learn to do more of what you love and change what isn’t working.
      2. Do an analysis of your identity. How are you defining yourself in ways that are helping you succeed? How are you defining yourself in ways that limit your experience of happiness and meaning?
      3. Complete the MOJO scorecard on one major activity at work and one at home. How can you change either yourself or the activity to raise your score?
      4. List the five areas of your life that bother you the most and that you cannot change at this time. What can you do to increase the amount of acceptance that you experience in regard to each area.
      5. Imagine that you are 95 years old. What advice would the ‘old’ you have for the you that is here today in terms of increasing the happiness or meaning that you experience in life?
